11/07/2024
Walthall County Sheriff's Office aims to protect everyone in our communities, but especially those who are most vulnerable - the children. One of the most prevalent dangers to our young people, and anyone really, is easy access to illegal drugs. With the widespread use of social media, access to drugs is easier than ever.
One of the most significant dangers to today's generation is fentanyl. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid, a powerful drug, and can be incredibly deadly. Even if someone is using a different drug, there is a chance for fentanyl overdose because lacing drugs with fentanyl is becoming increasingly common.
Knowing the signs of fentanyl overdose can save someone's life. They include, but are not limited to:
1. Difficulty walking, talking, or standing
2. Choking or a snore-like sound
3. Shallow or slowed breathing
4. Slow or weak pulse
5. Blue or gray-colored and clammy skin
In the event of a possible fentanyl overdose, it is important to call 911 or your local emergency number and tell them of the possible overdose. It is also important to let them know if they are breathing normally, having difficulty breathing, or not breathing at all. Often, the emergency dispatcher will give you instructions to assist the person while help is on the way.
